Scholarships for Freshman Students

You should be able to focus on your education, not how you are going to pay for it. Scholarships are a great way to help pay for your education. Benedictine offers several scholarships to help meet the financial needs of our students.

Benedictine Academic Scholar Award
Awards range from $6,000-$17,000 annually.

Benedictine University recognizes high school student achievement by awarding merit scholarships based on a student's GPA and standardized test scores.

Catholic High School Award
$1,500 per year

Eligibility: Students must graduate from a catholic high school to receive this award.

Out of State Award
Up to $4,000 per year

Eligibility: Residents of a state other than Illinois who live in a residence hall.

Family Recognition Award
Up to $2,000 per year

Eligibility: Students whose parent(s), grandparent(s), or sibling(s) is a degreed alumnus of Benedictine University, or has a sibling that is currently enrolled.

Music Scholarship
Up to $6,000 per year

Eligibility: Successful completion of music audition with the Department of Music; Declared major or minor in music.

Scholars Program
$22,400 per year

Eligibility: Students who meet the following criteria:

  1. A minimum high school GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 27 or an SAT score of 1280
  2. Rank in the top 20% of the applicant's high school class

Benedictine Need Award
 

All students who file a federal financial aid application (FAFSA) and demonstrate calculated financial need will be reviewed and considered for need-based assistance.

Jurica Scholarship
Up to $2,000 per year

Eligibility: Students who meet the following four criteria:

  1. Incoming freshmen majoring in Biology, Environmental Science or Health Science
  2. A minimun high school GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale and Composite ACT score of >27 or an SAT score above 1260.

Birck-Tellabs Scholarship
Up to $2,000 per year

Eligibility: Students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Declared a major by the time of matriculation within one of the following three broad areas in the College of Science: Biological Sciences (including Health Science and Environmental Science majors), Mathematical & Computational Sciences, and Physical Sciences & Engineering.
  2. A minimum high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 27 or an SAT score above 1260.

Athletic Band
$1,000

Eligibility: tuition credit after full semester of participation.

Campus Visit Award
$1,000

Eligibility: Experience our Benedictine hospitality firsthand! Freshmen who visit before May 1 and transfer students who visit before July 1 will receive a $1,000 annual Campus Visit Award.* It's our way of saying, "Thanks for visiting!"

*Eligible events include: Visit Days, BenU at a Glance, Eagle Days, Transfer Workshops and personalized visits. Award is renewable annually and will be disbursed for up to four consecutive years.

St. Ben Chapel Choir
$500

Eligibility: tuition credit after full semester of participation.

 

Please Note

  • Institutional awards are applicable for incoming freshman starting in Fall 2020.
  • To remain eligible for the full amount of Benedictine University institutional financial aid each semester, you must be enrolled full time (12-18 credit hours) and remain in good academic standing. Scholarship recipients who are found to be in violation of student conduct guidelines as outlined in the Student Handbook may be subject to loss of institutional scholarships/awards.
  • Student financial aid programs, terms, and conditions are subject to change without notice or obligation. The Office of Financial Aid reserves the right to modify financial aid awards at any time based on the availability of federal, state, and institutional funds; outside scholarships; or if changes occur in your financial need, course enrollment, or academic status. If a student receives additional assistance after the initial financial aid offer was issued, previously awarded funds may be adjusted.
  • The Benedictine Academic Scholar Award and Scholars Program are mutually exclusive and may not be combined.
  • Institutional awards are applicable to the cost of tuition only.
  • Students from Benedictine University at Mesa qualify for special tuition rates and are not eligible for these scholarships.
