Each year the collective
body of the Alumni Association presents three distinct and unique awards to
members of the Benedictine University Alumni family.
The Benedictine University
Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2009 Distinguished Alumni
Recognition Awards. All Benedictine alumni and friends are invited to submit
nominations for the awards which will be announced at Commencement on May 2009.
The following categories
will be open for nominations:
1. Distinguished Alumni
Award - In recognition of outstanding achievement in a career field or personal
endeavor.
2. Alumni Service Award - In gratitude for current or past service to
the University and/or the Alumni Association. The Award will be presented to
an alumnus/a who has made significant donations of time and talent to Benedictine.
3. Benedictine Spirit Award - Presented to an alumnus/a who has exemplified
the Benedictine values of service, hospitality, and dedication to a given cause
in their personal and/or professional life.
All awards are open to alumni
in good standing who have completed a minimum of 48 credit hours at St. Procopius,
Illinois Benedictine, or Benedictine University. All award nominees must have
graduated or last attended Benedictine at least ten years ago.
Nominations will be evaluated
by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, which will make recommendations
to the President of the University, the Alumni Association President, and the
Director of Alumni Relations for final selection. The nominees will need to
meet one or more of the following considerations:
1. Nominees must have made
significant achievements in their chosen careers.
2. They must bring honor to the University through their efforts.
3. They must have contributed their time and talents to the University and/or
the community.
4. They must exhibit excellence in their volunteer work.
5. They must exhibit a sincere personal commitment to Benedictine University
and its students, alumni, faculty and/or staff.
6. They reflect the Benedictine values that are a part of the University's heritage
and mission, including hospitality, service, and dedication to all people.
Nominations must be received
no later than January 14, 2009. Finalists not selected in a given year will
automatically be submitted for consideration the following year. A permanent
display of winners is in the Krasa Student Center, and all winners will have
biographical information displayed for review.

In recognition of outstanding achievement in a career field or personal endeavor,
the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award goes to Dave and Patty Bushland Class of
1991.
Alumni
Spirit Award 2008
For exemplifying the Benedictine values of service, hospitality, and dedication,
personally and professionally, the 2008 Alumni Spirit Award goes to Carol Arthurs
Class of 1974.
Benedictine
Service Award 2008
Given for serving the university with time and talent, the 2008 Alumni Service
Award goes to William Tonne, D.D.S. Class of 1968.
