Benedictine University 2020 Global
Virtual Commencement Ceremony
Sunday, October 18
Updated July 23, 2020
Illinois has made significant strides to reopen local businesses and safely gather the community. But unfortunately, the threat of the COVID-19 virus still remains as the counts of positive cases continue to rise in many areas. As much as we would love to invite our graduates and their loved ones to celebrate in-person, the recent trends have made it clear that large gatherings will continue to be prohibited in the coming months.
With this in mind, we have decided to hold a virtual commencement ceremony on Sunday, October 18 for all recent Benedictine graduates. After months of discussion and deliberation, we believe that this difficult decision is necessary in order to keep everyone safe.
This will truly be a global celebration, with graduates from our Lisle, Mesa, China, Vietnam and online programs all invited to participate.
While we will celebrate virtually this fall, we still believe the Class of 2020 deserves to walk across our stage, in-person, and take their moment in the spotlight. That’s why we are planning to invite all December 2019, March 2020, May 2020 and August 2020 graduates back to campus to walk at the Spring 2021 Commencement. We will share more information about these plans towards the end of 2020, once we’ve finalized the date, time and logistics.
Please watch for future communications about the upcoming virtual commencement, as we will need the graduates’ help to make it possible. For now, please “save the date” and know that travel arrangements will not need to be made.
We look forward to celebrating together on October 18!
